Review: LUSH Cosmetics Makeup

Before we get into the review, I have a little confession:I used to work at LUSH for a little over 2 years (which definitely gave me the chance to try out every single thing they had in store). But, one thing I found I never really got to explore was the makeup. Up until I left, LUSH makeup, otherwise referenced as the EB (Emotive Brilliance) line for all you true Lushies out there, was very minimal across many brick-and-mortar locations. Though we did sell a variety of products, the solid/naked makeup jewels were limited edition products and sold only at the flagship store on Oxford street in London.

Anywayyy, now that I have left, I have decided to take it upon myself to try out these weirdos and see for myself if they are really worth all the hype. At first glance, they seem really difficult to use, however I will give them the benefit of the doubt because LUSH is the master of good surprises and I already have a lot of products from them that I can’t part without. So without further ado, let’s give this thing a go.

1- Sugar Plum Fairy Lip Scrub

Effectiveness: ★★★★☆

Price: $

Final thoughts: Decently prices and not too ruff. The sugar grans and essential oils really do make for a good base for gloss or lipstick. the flavour is a little too sweet for me, I much prefer the mint julep, but a good buy.

2- Charisma Skin Tint

Effectiveness: ★★★★★

Price: $$

Final thoughts: Quite pricey for the quantity given, however a must-have for a die-hard bronzie. The shimmer is spot on and the colour is perfectly pigmented. I’ve been using this product on and off for about a year and I have to say the consistency is perfect year round but super dewy and fresh in the summertime. The only downside is it is really hard to make even without adding a little toner water to it, but all around great product> I recommend strongly.

3- Ruby Red Lipstick Block Jewel

Effectiveness: ★★★☆☆

Price: $

Final thoughts: I was a little bit disappointed with this one at first. I think the less fresh it is, it creates a matte layer that makes it hard to get that spreadable consistency that everyone knows and loves. In addition, where some of the lip jewels come pizza-shaped, the roundness made application less precise. Words of wisdom: cut it into four and make sure to have a small lip brush handy. Also rub off the outer layer, it makes the worlds of difference.

4- Bronze Palette Eye Block

Effectiveness: ★★★★☆

Price: $

Final thoughts: I’m glad I used this product on my arm first because I came to find out that the gold section, and the gold section alone is very granular and left my arm a little red. Definitely mix and blend this product prior to putting it on the eyelids but overall perfect product for that festival/glitter glam and not an everyday product. Would’ve been a solid yes for me had it not been for the gold section.
